Trust me on this i have looked.
Easy diy braided rug.
Thanks for a great post.
I ve wanted to make a braided rug for as long as i can remember but just never got around to it.
I was so happy to see this diy.
Generally the length of the center braid can be determined by subtracting your planned rug s width from its length.
The proportions of the finished rug will tell you how long to make the center braid.
Fortunately this braided rag rug tutorial by megan nielsen is excellent and most likely the best you re going to find.
Once you have braided the rug to the desired width you can sew the ends of the strips tucked into the underside of the braid.
Wash and dry your rug as you plan to for daily use and consider adding a non slip pad for beneath the rug.
There are lots of diy posts about rag rugs out there but most of them just left me confused.
In order to make the woven rug shown in the top picture look up four strand braided rag rugs i make them using a four strand braid where you loup the fourth strand into the previous row.
For a more finished look wrap the last braid with bias tape and sew in place.
You can also use old curtains sheets and clothes to design a beautiful braided rug.
I used to make braided rugs out of ribbons for my dollhouse when i was little too.
I can t wait to start this project.
